Free Trials

If it asks for your Visa card number, it isn't free.

There are a number of internet merchants that offer “free” trials for their products, usually for somewhere between 3 and 14 days.

In addition, the products and services that are offered by these merchants are often completely worthless to the member and, in some cases, actually prescribed by Australian Customs and cannot actually enter the country.

But unless you specifically cancel your trial within the “free” period, they will charge you an ongoing subscription that is buried in their terms and conditions.

If an internet merchant asks you for your Visa card number, whether it is for age verification, a small postage cost or any other reason, make sure you read their terms and conditions thoroughly and only enter your card details if you know:

  •    How to cancel the trial correctly
  •    The length of the trial period
  •    What goods they are providing
  •    When you should expect to receive the goods
  •   That the company is legitimate
